    About Us

The Chicago Smelts is Chicago's predominantly gay and lesbian U.S. Masters Swim Team, encouraging fitness, friendship, community, and competition through swimming. Membership is open to everyone including gay-friendly straight swimmers.  The team currently has a roster of over 120 swimmers from around the Chicago area and includes athletes of all abilities ranging from former college superstars to triathletes to beginners.

    Our Mission Statement

As a mostly gay and lesbian swim club belonging to Illinois Masters Swim Association (ILMSA), the Chicago Smelts foster an atmosphere of camaraderie where swimmers of all abilities and speeds can participate in organized team workouts, train, and compete. Gill Park Recreation Center

Over the past 20+ years the Chicago Smelts have developed a great relationship with Gill Park Recreation Center.  We participate in the Gill Park Advisory Council, attend Chicago Park District meetings in support of Gill Park and its programs, donate pool equipment, and raise money to support the Gill Park Gators youth swim team and other local community organizations.
